21 Prayer for Church Leaders

Prayers for leaders of the church are essential. Anyone that is a leader either by chance, choice, mandatory, or appointment is a blessed person.

God has appointed them to take up the leadership position, and they are blessed as they mount such a position. To some extent, these blessings are accompanied by many sacrifices and responsibilities.

Leaders of the church journey in the path of power and authority, counsel, teaching, warning, etc. In dispensing these roles, they are bound to encounter all manner of attacks, disappointments, hatred, and vile situations, and even the act of the flesh can work against them.

To some extent balancing family affairs with ministry work is overwhelming.

Prayer for Church Leaders

In essence, church leaders need the congregation’s prayers for unction to function. Whenever God calls anyone or is appointed people to work in a particular office, God equips them through the congregation’s prayers.

Christians need to ascertain the prayer need of their leader at a particular time. Congregants should not be wary of paying apt attention to their leaders’ verbal and nonverbal cues to help them pray about what is bothering them.

Again, the congregation must be spiritually equipped to stand in the spiritual gap for their leaders.

1. A Prayer for Endurance

Dear Father, I am thankful for the lives of the church leaders.

I glorify your name, for you have manifested your mighty power and blessings through these leaders.

I pray that you will help them to be determined to pursue the course of the gospel and be steadfast and enduring in the face of any circumstance.

I request for grace and strength to finish the excellent work that you have placed in their care as you state in Hebrews 12:1 “Therefore we also , since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses , let us lay aside every weight , and the sin which so easily ensnares us , and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.”

Help them to lay off the burden in their hearts. Just as Jesus Christ endured tribulations on the cross for man’s salvation, may the leaders take for suitable fruition to abound.

I pray that they will not be overcome by the weight of sin, which will easily entrap them. Let there be grace to run the race set before them with endurance, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

2. A Prayer For Help Through Challenges

Mighty Father, I am delighted every time I realize that you are the giver of joy and source of strength to our soul.

I implore for pleasure and power for the church leaders to sail through challenges and disappointments as embedded in 2 Corinthians 12:10 “I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and difficulties for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong”.

Let there be an abundance of divine help and grace to push through trials and tribulations.

Even in their weakness, I pray for strength. When the spirit is weak, and the mind nurtures thoughts of quitting, I pray for a rekindling fire.

You are well of hope in which all humanity draws inspiration to surge ahead despite challenges.

Let them seek only your path of redemption whenever trials approach.

I seek your strength upon their lives to overcome the enemies’ plans.

In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

3. A Prayer for Wisdom

Heavenly Father, I commit the church leaders to the depth of your vast wisdom.

I pray that you bestow unto them the type of wisdom that you gave to King Solomon and other wise kings.

You state in your words that wisdom is better than weapons of war.

In Ecclesiastes 9:16, “I have always said that wisdom is better than strength, but no one thinks of the poor as wise or pays any attention to what they say.”

In this vein, I invoke the spirit of wisdom upon their lives so as not to be despised while discharging the wise counsel of God.

I pray for pure intents associated with wisdom to locate the church leaders.

I call upon the spirit of wisdom to be impartial and also be devoid of hypocrisy to dwell upon the leaders of the church.

4. A Prayer For Obedience to Scripture

Wonderful Savior, I pray for divine help over the lives of church leaders to proclaim the Gospel of Christ in the world with bravery, intelligence, and without the panic of criticism of the truth.

I proclaim the spirit of obedience into their lives.

I come against every disobedient spirit that will come upon church leaders, which might lead to the destruction of the followers as it happened to King Saul and the children of Israel.

I implore that you may give them the courage to obey your scripture.

You state in 2 Timothy 1:7, “For the Spirit that God has given us does not make us timid; instead, his Spirit fills us with power, love, and self-control.”.

I pray that they remain committed to your word in Jesus’ name. Amen.

5) A Prayer For Pastors Equip

Eternal Lord, I stand in your fabulous presence to plead for the spiritual equipping of pastors in the vineyard.

For the acceptance to labor in your yard, oh Lord, equip them. Let them not be weary of exerting the powers of Christ.

I pray for your perfect assistance. I believe that you use men to fulfill your work, so equip them to be durable and sustainable for your use.

Hebrews 13:20 -21, “Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead , that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,  make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ , to whom be glory forever and ever.”

I pray for the grace to wear the armor of good works. May our pastors be equipped with the desire to please God.

Let the inspired Scripture of God become like apparel in their hearts.

May your good words be a standard for their lifestyles.

I declare an equipped armor of righteousness, reprimand, rectification, and direction for fulfilling the Gospel of Christ to rest upon pastors.

This I plead by the blood of Christ. Amen.

6. A Prayer for Purity

Righteous God, I pray that church leaders will not have evil thoughts about anyone.

May they be distant from all impurities which may infest their minds.

2 Timothy 2: 21 “Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter , He will be a vessel for honor , sanctified and useful for the Master , prepared for every good work.”

Oh! Lord, let your cleansing power from the blood of your son, which was shed on the cross of Calvary, drench their hearts.

Make them instruments and vessels of honor worthy of piloting the affairs of the kingdom of God.

I cast away every joy derived from a dirty act that may hinder their repentance and deliverance.

Every demonic act and thought is banished from their minds. Lord, forgive whatever action of impurity that was performed.

Cleanse and make them new. Purge every evil thought and desire from their hearts.

Cast away every spirit of lust and greed. Wash away all their sin, Lord, and put your power within them, I pray.

Receive them as sinners and convert them to the pure beings that you wish them to be. You are capable of forgiving sins and cleanse all iniquities.

Let there be grace for the detestation of sin. Only in You, God, can they be washed white as snow and truly made pure.

7. A Prayer For the Fulfillment of Fellowship

Divine Lord, Thank you for the light of glory shone into the lives of pastors and church leaders.

Praise your holy name for brightening the hearts of the leaders to fellowship in spirit and truth.

I know that the power of your word will guide their pathway to fulfill fellowship.

I beg for help for them to walk in the light of your love in the company.

You said in your word in 1 Corinthians 1:9, “God is faithful , by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son , Jesus Christ our Lord.”

According to this scripture, you are too faithful to fail church leaders you have called to fellowship with you.

Their fellowship with you will not be fulfilled without your light shining in their souls.

I pray against every power of darkness, fighting against the fulfillment of their mandate.

I pray for continued dwelling in the presence of the Holy Spirit.

By the fulfillment of their fellowship with you, oh! Lord, there will be a manifestation of your goodness, power, healing, testimonies, breakthrough, and grace to all who come in contact with them.

Make them dwell in the light and love of God so that there will be enjoyment and sweet fellowship with the congregation.

8. A Prayer to Keep the Course

Dear Holy Spirit, I implore you to pursue every infirmity that may hinder church leaders and pastors.

I come against every spirit of wariness in the pursuit of expanding the kingdom of God.

I decree renewal of energy to their body and delight to their spirit.

With these, oh Lord, they will serve and bless your name till eternity.

Let the same focus and the zeal to preach the Gospel rest upon church leaders as vested in Acts 20:24, “But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself , so that I may finish my race with joy , and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus , to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.”

Give them the foresight to see the glory of your kingdom work.

Do not let sin hold them in captivity. Only your power can keep them going to reach the goal which you have set for them.

Give them the ability to forsake all that has been apprehended from them for the kingdom’s course.

Let their desire focus on the golden price of steadfastness. I pray that you may shield them in your wings and make them rest in your hands.

My earnest yearning is for church leaders and pastors to experience your warmth of love to keep their course. Good God assists their practice by being their source of life and health.

Be their help in times of distress, comfort their soul in times of affliction, relieve them of the yokes of the devil, and give them the power to minister healing to the congregation.

Let their weakness become strength and courage to surge ahead in the kingdom for the sake of Jesus Christ.

Amen.

9. A Prayer for Godly Friends

Lord Jesus, you will answer my prayers for directing church leaders to meet with good friends.

You are the best friend one could have, but having a friend in the world is also necessary.

Despite their delicate relationships with King Saul, friends such as David and Jonathan never thought of evil against one another.

Lord, associate church leaders with good friends who advise, encourage, lead, and motivate them to keep the faith.

Let them contact friends with listening ears to share their problems and assist in resolving them.

Just in your word in Proverbs 27: 17, “As iron sharpens iron , So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.”

I pray that they will not come in contact with evil friends that will corrupt their good manners.

As they meet people daily, they open their eyes to understanding to decipher excellent and lousy associations to walk uprightly.

Bring them to people that will spur, not diminish, their faith.

I pray that you order their steps to friends that will have a burning desire to serve God as they do.

I trust that you will grant my prayers.

10. A Prayer for Quiet Time to Study the Word

My Father in Heaven, I plead that you always dwell with church leaders as they try to establish a unique relationship with you.

Keep them far from temptations that might cause a break in their quiet time to communicate with God.

I cover them with the blood of Jesus from whatever might want to divert their attention from quiet times, be it the lust of the flesh, guide their eyes.

Be it movies, help them to make better choices. Be it books, give them the guidance to read uplifting ones.

I appreciate your time with them and still seek more of your presence.

I praise you because I know that your presence will significantly impact their lives and help fulfill their ministry calling.

As they have quiet time with you, I know that Joshua 1:8 will be their portion “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success”.

I request that their heart always seeks you in Jesus’ name. Amen.

11. A Prayer for Rest and Good Health

O holy Spirit, Whisper your words of peace on the souls of church leaders. Let them rest in your bosom, and only goodness and favor be their portion.

I pronounce thoughts of peace into their lives. Let there be no news of heartache. Let them bathe in the well of good health.

You say in your words that returning and rest we shall be saved, in quietness and confidence shall be our strength.

I declare the promise of Jeremiah 33: 6  upon their lives “Behold , I will bring it health and healing; I will heal them and reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth.”

I pray they prosper and are healthy like their Father in Heaven. I invoke the power of the Holy Spirit to lift them to the mighty presence of rest, peace, long life, and good health, where they will know that you alone are God.

This I pray through Jesus Christ our Lord.

12. A Prayer for Provision

Everlasting God, I thank you because there is no situation in Heaven, on and beneath the earth, you cannot control, even spiritual and physical provision.

I know that your name is Jehovah-Jireh: a great provider. You manifested this prowess in the wilderness for the children of Israel and Elijah in the cave.

You have the whole world in your hands. I bless your name because you know the heart desires of the church leaders towards their individual needs.

I ask with confidence because you promised to grant our request, so I tender the needs of church leaders unto your care.

You admonished that we should cast our burdens unto you and that you will relieve us from such obligations. All concerns and needs of church leaders are bare in your eyes, and I believe you have a plan and hold the provision.

I release the power of divine provision into their lives as vested in 2 Corinthians 9:8 “And God can make all grace abound toward you , that you , always having all sufficiency in all things , may have an abundance for every good work.”

I know you can make a way where there seems no way. Forgive and ignore every doubt, personal struggle, and worry that you have warned against to achieve what they desire.

Help them to believe and trust in your words and unfailing promises. I recognize your mighty power in doing far more significant than their expectations.

I am grateful for your power of provision. Thank you for the spirit of contentment in every situation in Jesus’ name. Amen.

13. A Prayer for Faithfulness

Dear Lord, I worship your holy name for the divine help you render to church leaders to persevere in times of trouble even when they go through the depth of waters, fiery furnace of tribulations, and pangs of regrets.

These leaders need your unquenchable grace, strength, and power to stay faithful in their darkest times. Help their faith to stay focused in the ministry.

I pray for forgiveness upon their lives, for they may have resorted to other things to aid their faith. I implore that your spirit should penetrate their hearts and give them a steadfast faith to cleave unto the author and finisher of their faith.

Instill in their hearts the willingness to stay faithful. Hebrews 11: 33, “who through faith subdued kingdoms , worked righteousness , obtained promises , stopped the mouths of lions.”

I pray that you plant just a seed of faith in their hearts, for it will move mountains. Let unflinching faith and fear in God grow awesomely in their heart through Jesus Christ.

14. A Prayer for a Servant-Hearted Leadership

King of Glory, I pray for the leaders in the church to have a servant’s heart. Teach them to follow in your footsteps in saving humanity by laying your life on the cross of Calvary.

Infest their mind with honest, dignified, righteous, lovely, and admirable thoughts. Help church leaders to tread on an excellent and laudable path.

Define what is a servant leader to them and give them a complete understanding of how to implement the principles as posited in Luke 22: 26 “But not so among you; on the contrary , He who is greatest among you , let him be as the younger , and He who governs as He who serves.”

I pray that they should carry out their responsibility as good shepherds. Let them not watch their sheep but correct in love.

Give them the listening ear of good leaders to proffer wise counsel to the congregation. Teach them to lead by example and be their brother’s keeper.

Blot out every form of self-glorified attitude and make them never consider the love of power and more about the power of love. Order their steps to the path of humility.

Increase their passion for compassion. Strengthen them with the love of Christ in Jesus’ precious name, I pray. Amen.

15. A Prayer for Authority

In the name of Jesus, I command authority and power into the lives of church leaders. Wherever they go, a sign of a servant of God must be boldly written on their foreheads.

I pray for spiritual upliftment and banish every form of sensual activity from them. I invoke war armor upon them to overpower all forces of darkness in the air, ground, water, beneath the earth, and everywhere.

You said in your word in Matthew 10:19, “Behold , I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions , and over all the power of the enemy , and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

I stand by this declaration and pray upon the lives of church leaders to wage war without fear with principalities and powers. I seek protection and intercession for them and their family.

I call upon the Holy Spirit to defend them in times of weakness and strengthen them during a fiery battle with the kingdom of darkness. Let their tongues spitfire and their hands throw thongs of fire.

Let their body reverberate the holy ghost. They need your help in times of trouble. Empower the flesh to overcome the gimmicks of the devil.

Fill them with the sacred spirit and clothe them with war armor, for they do not battle with flesh but principalities and powers.

This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

16. A Prayer Against Temptation

Dear Lord Jesus, I pray leaders do not fall short while striving to serve their kingdom. Fulfill your promise in 2 Peter 2:9 “then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment.”

Do not allow their faith to be shaken because of temptation. Avert all forms of attraction, no matter how serious it is. Give them the desire to resist temptation.

You have commanded in your words that no temptation will exceed the bearing capacity of anyone. Let there be a strength to remain focused whenever they encounter temptation.

Endow them with spiritual alertness so temptation does not take them unawares. Instill in them a burning desire to pray always so that the devil will not see any loophole to drag them away from your glory.

Let their spirit be fed with your word and let it live as a burning fire in them. Give them the same grace and strength with which you overcame Satan’s temptation attacks in the wilderness.

Do not allow the desires of the flesh to drag them into temptation. Lord, give them the wisdom to overcome and escape from temptation.

Let them recognize the way out that you will provide. Thank you, precious father, for being a trustworthy and faithful deliverer.

I know that you will not fail their dependence on you.

17). A Prayer for a Unified Family

Heavenly Lord, I commit the families of church leaders to your special care.

Let your admonition towards their wives and children in Ephesians 5:25 and Ephesians 6:4. “Husbands , love your wives , just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her”; “And you , fathers , do not provoke your children to wrath , but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord” be their watchword.

May you protect their marriage so that it will be a model for adoption in other families. Help them to exercise the same love you have for the church towards their wives.

Let them cherish their family and let their wives be submissive an examples to other women. Let her showcase the virtue of humility and encourage the husband to live a worthy life of emulation.

I pray for unmarried church leaders. Let their relationships blossom into fruitful and blissful marriages. May they be surrounded by loving and caring family members.

I pray for the children of church leaders. I rebuke the spirit of the sons of Eli upon their lives. May they not live disgusting lifestyles.

May they not bring shame to their parents. Let them be vessels of honor. Do not allow the pressure of the church to discourage or embitter them.

I pray for Godly and disciplinary leadership in their homes. May they be void of eye service but train their kids in a manner that will please God.

As for those that do not have physical children, may they be surrounded by spiritual children as he preaches the word of God all over the world in Jesus’ precious name, I pray.

Amen.

18. A Prayer for Guidance

Mighty God, I pray for guidance for church leaders. Guard them through every phase of their daily activities.

Fill them with the desire to follow your steps more than anything else. Exodus 15: 13, “You in Your mercy have led forth The people whom You have redeemed; You have guided them in Your strength To Your holy habitation.”

Thank you for being a shining light in the dark and a pillar of cloud in the day to lead them. I bless your name, for you are more significant than any barrier.

Thank you for your ever-present presence in their lives. I request your unfailing guidance and goodness to sustain them. Let the spirit of guidance never flee from them.

By your power, oh! Lord, uncover the scales from their eyes and heart so they will recognize your word and guidance.

Let them experience the power of your guidance and open their ears to listen to the voice of the guarding angel.

This, I believe, will manifest through the power of Jesus Christ.

19. A Prayer for Spirit of Forgiveness

Merciful Lord, Allow church leaders to have the hearts of little children as vested in Mathew 18: 3, “Assuredly , I say to you , unless you are converted and become as little children , you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.”

This attribute will make them easily forgive and hold no bitterness or anger against anyone. It will make them easy access to your presence because you detest an unforgiving mind.

I speak against every spirit of arrogance in their hearts, which breeds a grudge. Do not allow them to exalt themselves above where you stationed them, for without you; they are nothing.

Do not allow vain glories to take over their heart. I pray that no matter the gravity of the pain caused by someone, give them the grace to release the hurt and be able to forgive the person.

Don’t let it hurt to the extent that they become bitter people. I pray that they experience the refreshing waters of lifting off the burden of hatred. Also, forgive them for their trespass against others.

Also, give others the grace to forgive them. Thank you for giving them the heart of forgiveness. Clothe and bind the church leaders in perfect harmony and peaceful coexistence.

Let them showcase unconditional love towards each other. Speak into their hearts your word. Let them not forgive to please men as eye service while their hearts are still bitter.

Let the Holy Spirit fill their hearts with peace when they pronounce forgiveness. Help them to have the compassion associated with true forgiveness when they see their offender.

I release the confidence of Jesus Christ to lead them into the vast freedom of forgiveness. Thank you for the gift of forgiveness.

20. A Prayer for the Missionaries

Almighty God, I remind you of your command and promise to the missionaries in Matthew 28:19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations , baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit , teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo , I am with you always , even to the end of the age.”.

I invoke your fabulous presence to be with them as they journey worldwide. They have obeyed your word to go to strange lands to preach the gospel of Christ in your honor and to fulfill their destinies.

I decree that they positively impact wherever they step on their feet. Let there be dominion and blessings. Following what Abraham did by moving out of his land of birth to an unknown destination, these missionaries did the same to disseminate the true Gospel of God.

Since they have obeyed your word, Lord be with them. Guard, guide, and protect them as they enter an unknown destination.

I pray for journey mercies. I speak favor into their lives. I command everyone and everything they come in contact to hear, obey, agree, and receive them wholeheartedly. I declare open doors and victory for all souls that accept Christ through them.

I decree a million conversion of souls. Heaven is rejoicing for the souls of new converts. Hallelujah!. I pass courage to those that have been discouraged by trials and tribulations.

Give them the boldness to accost the world’s cruelty just as you overcome them. Give them your peace. Let them feel the warmth and comfort of your love and security.

Assure them that their works are not in vain and that there is a golden reward for those that keep up the faith in this heavenly race.

Always remind them that you are joyful and proud of your loyal servants. Protect them from all manners of attacks.

Plant confusion in the gathering of the wicked. I command angels to surround them with armors of war in Jesus’ name.

21. A Prayer for Spiritual Inclination

Jesus, You are the ultimate king of glory. I give you praise and adoration. I pray that your spirit should surround church leaders to be more conversant with spiritual things, just as Proverbs 29:18 portrays, “Where there is no revelation , the people cast off restraint; But happy is He who keeps the law.”

May you give church leaders a clear vision and mission of the church to pursue their mandate accordingly. Let the reality of your magnanimous power engulf them.

Let them have a face-to-face encounter with you just like Moses, Jacob, Abraham, and other men you choose to honor with your glorious presence.

Thank you for the impartation of anointing upon them. I bless your name for the gift of the Holy Spirit, for it will bestow honor, wisdom, deliverance, prosperity, healing, and numerous good gifts that will satisfy the body and soul of the body of Christ and glorify the works of God.

I believe that there will be no limitation on the spiritual gifts that you will give to them. Whisper the secrets of the kingdom, wishes, and will of God to them.

Let the winds of the holy spirit blow the breath of vision, word of knowledge, the spirit of discernment, speaking in tongues, interpretation of heavenly language, healing, prophecy, dreams, and other spiritual gifts to optimally serve and satisfy the spiritual yearnings of the people.

I rebuke every spirit of rebellion against becoming valuable instruments in the hands of the Holy Spirit. I pray for divine ideas to spring into their minds.

Let the Holy Spirit inspire them to pray, meditate, worship, and detect the movement of the holy spirit. Let them have profound revelations according to your will.

I pray that you open their spiritual eye to be aware of the hope and reward of serving you in spirit and truth. I believe you will answer everything I have prayed for today and forever.

Conclusion

Leaders of the church are saddled with varieties of responsibilities. The primary role is to lead people to the Kingdom of God. This job is multitasking, so a leader has to be prayerful to stay spiritually alert and on the path of righteousness to commune with Heaven.
